seca and the arts

- seca thrives on the company’s passion for precision and quality when it comes to weighing and measuring technology. In seca’s philosophy, there is also a particular emphasis on seeking inspiration from various forms of art, as well as cooperating with artists. With an exceptional eye for aesthetics and design, the company has produced a product range which offers an innovative link between art and technology. This special focus towards visual coherence sets seca apart from other manufacturers in the field of medical measuring systems. Not only does the appreciation of art lay the foundations for the company culture, it can also be seen in the products and their presentation. When browsing through seca’s catalogues and brochures, you will not only find the usual user and product images, but also receive insights into artistic projects which present certain products in a special and unique way.

One example of this is the cooperation between seca and the media artist Christina Lissmann. Lissmann took seca products and combined them with individuals displayed in various situations to create a comprehensive artwork. Staging several instances in which a seca product will be applied in reality – be it in hospital, geriatrics, pediatrics or a physician’s practice – Lissmann has managed to reinterpret the products’ emphasis on precision as a central motif of medical measuring systems by using aesthetically exaggerated fantasy illustrations.

Furthermore, the renowned photographers Barbara Metz and Eve Racine are currently following seca’s product range with a special project. The duo that originally worked in the fashion scene were inspired by seca and its products and decided to embark on a new and exciting journey. Metz and Racine focus their attention on analyzing the tension between the human and the technological, and in doing so, they shine a light on how technology influences certain aspects of daily life, and how the communication between measuring systems and patients can be facilitated when human and technology are in accordance with each other. Their work focusses on a body’s functionality and balance as the central motif. Balance is the key factor for a healthy body, and a measuring system can help detect and overcome an imbalance, thereby overcoming illness. Metz and Racine display the relationship between technological measuring devices and the human body through abstract figures comprising of geometric shapes.

Not only does seca appreciate the high recognition value and uniqueness of this work, but such artistic cooperations also offer a method of communication for the company. This language is globally comprehensible and enables the conveyance of a message without using words. Combining weighing and measuring technology with art is an innovative way for seca to present its strong corporate identity but also to evoke an active discourse – to discuss, analyse and interpret art. Family Vogel, currently heading seca in the fourth generation, has a strong affinity for the arts. This, of course, influences and underlines the company’s orientation. Therefore, seca offers not only excellent products but also a platform for actively dealing with art as a base for creative projects exploring the integration of the human and the technological.
