seca Scales Help Fight Childhood Obesity on TLC’s

"Honey We’re Killing the Kids!" Season Two

seca, the world’s market leader for medical scales backed by more than 160 years of German excellence and engineering, is contributing to the fight against childhood obesity by donating several of its state-of-the-art digital scales to TLC’s “Honey We’re Killing the Kids!” series,  premiering Monday, April 9, 2007 at 9 p.m.  The seca model seca 700 Beam Scale with Height Rod (500 lb capacity) is featured at the end of each episode as the progress the children have made over a three-week period is recorded.

seca, a long-time advocate in the fight against childhood obesity, previously sponsored a 2005 childhood obesity prevention program entitled “Moby Dick” in Hamburg, Germany in 2005. In that study, elementary school-age children were monitored over a three-year period, with seca donating all the weighing and measuring systems used to chart their progress.

“Childhood obesity is an issue that is of the utmost importance to millions of families across the country and that makes it important to seca,” said Jeff Mayes, executive vice president and general manager for seca North America.    “Donating scales to the series is part of our initiative to help make a difference in children’s lives and encourage and empower future generations of healthy adults.”

“Honey We’re Killing the Kids!” chronicles the daily confrontations parents face when trying to convince their children to eat a healthier diet. The series delivers a critical wake-up call for parents, inspiring them to make permanent lifestyle changes and teach their children healthy eating practices with the help of new host, nutrition and fitness expert Felicia Stoler. In addition to the TLC series, seca scales are used in top U.S. hospitals and research institutions including the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.  At the Mayo Clinic, seca collaborated with the staff to implement one of the first all-metric systems in a U.S. hospital. Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health, Columbia University and Georgetown University also utilize seca measurement devices when seeking cures and better treatment modalities for illnesses.
